4 Self- Motivating Mind Tricks

Are you struggling with self motivation? Having a hard time getting yourself to your regularly scheduled workouts? Finding more and more reasons to cheat on your healthy diet?

You’re not alone and today I’ve got just the 4 Self-Motivating Mind Tricks that you need to lock onto your goals…

A healthy dose of motivation coupled with determination will get you almost anything in life. So how do you know if you’re genuinely motivated?

• Motivation will tell you to get out of bed for an early workout.

• Motivation will nag you to put down the doughnut.

• Motivation makes passing on fries a reflex.

• Motivation makes a sweat drenched workout exciting.

• Motivation constantly reminds you why you do what you do.

Self-Motivating Mind Trick #1: Pinpoint Your Motivator.

Motivation stems from having a goal. What is your goal? Why do you want to get into great shape?

Once you uncover your personal motivator you’ll find that motivation flows quickly your way.

Take a minute to really uncover the reason that you want to lose the weight. Don’t say something vague like you want to ‘Be thinner‘ or ‘Look more attractive.‘ Dig deeper – there is a very specific motivator in your life, you simply need to uncover it.

Here are some possible motivators…

• I want to have more energy to keep up with the kids.

• I want to improve my health through weight loss to extend and improve my life.

• I want to lose 15 pounds before my vacation.

• I want to restore my confidence to wear sleeveless shirts.

• I want to regain my figure to impress and attract my significant other.

Self-Motivating Mind Trick #2: Make It Official.

When you write something down it suddenly feels official, doesn’t it? Write down your motivator for getting into great shape, and post it where you will see it often—next to your alarm clock, on the bathroom mirror, or in your car.

Each time you see your written motivator take a moment to visualize yourself accomplishing your goal. Try to make the scene as clear in your mind as possible. This is a powerful tool for maintaining your focus and direction.

Self-Motivating Mind Trick #3: Be Practical.

It’s game plan time. You know what you want, and now you need to map out exactly how you’ll achieve it. It is important to be practical in your planning, rather than throwing out ideas that you know you won’t stick with.

With any weight loss goal it is important to 1) maintain a healthy low-calorie diet, and 2) participate in a consistent and challenging exercise program.

Plan a routine that will fit into your schedule and you’ll be more likely to stick with it. Also choose an exercise program that you enjoy—don’t force yourself to jog everyday if you hate jogging.

Self-Motivating Mind Trick #4: Call For Backup.

Enlist the support of your friends, family and co-workers. Tell everyone about your goal to lose weight and get fit, you’ll be surprised how supportive most people will be. By being open about your goals you’ll likely be an encouragement to others to make healthy changes in their own lives.

The most effective way to ensure that you meet your goal is to enlist my support, your personal trainer and coach. Together we will identify what really motivates you. Together we will design a workout routine that fits into your schedule and into your life. And together we will see it through until your goal is met.

Are Fall Favorites Failing You?

someecard-psl
It seems that once September first hits, people start drinking “Fall Favorites” and seldom think twice about taking the calorie hit.  Since the introduction of the “Pumpkin Spice Latte”(click link for calorie information) over 14 years ago, Starbucks has sold over 350 million of them.  Indulging in Pumpkin Spice Lattes, aka PSL, and other fall treats can have a negative effect on any eating plan.   With the average woman needing to follow a 1,500 calorie diet to lose weight, and a manPSL needing to follow a 2,000 calorie diet, using 380-500 of your daily allowance for a morning coffee is not a wise nutrition choice.

I have included a couple of links to help educate you on just how many calories a person can mindlessly ingest in a day.  This first article offers a good overview of how cutting liquid calories can have a positive result on your weight loss.  Stealth Assault on Health: Beverages Pack Calorie Punch.   Another resource, published in 2015, by the Center for Disease Control, titled “Rethink Your Drink,” offers a comprehensive list of calorie comparisons for popular beverages.  So the next time you are thirsty, make sure you count those calories, because they really add up!  Just drink water – BAM!!!

Plan of Attack for Our Mission!

Weighted squat with #FresnoFitChef

In my business I meet with people of all shapes and sizes who are all at different levels of fitness.  A new client’s physical ability, exposure to physical fitness, and health has a direct impact on how our first training session will go. Have they ever work out before? Are they familiar with gym equipment? Are they dealing with any medical or health issues? Is the client looking to lose weight? Is the client looking to be a bodybuilder? Are they just looking for a new form of exercise?  After you Take that FIRST STEP! we need to determine our common mission and our plan of attack!

Now that we have discussed your personal history, goals, and any health limitations, we need to plan our attack on this new mission together.  I use our first workout to “test drive” my client’s body and assess your capability to move through an exercise session.  I do this by gauging how well you can perform the following moves Squats, Hinges, Push, Pull, and a Plank.

Real Warrior #ChefBrizzle getting his PLANK on!

These movements are the foundation to the body, therefore, any weakness or limitation in these areas will give me tremendous insight as to where we need to start.  Everyone walks into my gym with their own goal in mind and these basic exercises are the best way for me to evaluate your current level of physical fitness and how to help you to achieve your mission.

Once we learn your body’s strengths and weaknesses, we need to document your starting point.  We will take several photos to we can chronicle your transformation; a frontal view, a back view, and one for each side, profile view.  It has been proven that when clients are able to visibly confirm their progress, they are more motivated to continue their fitness journey and often times increase their efforts.

Documenting your starting point is key to seeing your progress and maintaining motivation!

This is your journey and I am here to educate you, cheer you on, push you, and help you!  We are on a mission TOGETHER!  BAM!!!

MOTIVATION MONDAY – Tony Robbins

TR 1.jpg

A public figure that I truly admire, is Tony Robbins.  After growing up in a household run by an abusive alcoholic mother and being abandoned by his father, Tony decided to mold himself into the inspirational man he is, with no example in sight.  He has transformed his life from that of an underprivileged child to that of a man focused on giving back to the world. Serena

He is an incredibly well-round and intelligent man who has built his life on a firm foundation of education, hard work, and gratitude.  His unique brand of life coaching has been sought after by celebrities like Leonardo di Caprio, sports figures, such as Serena Williams and MMA Champion Chuck Liddell, and even Presidents of the United States.

TR Last Pic

What I admire most about Tony is that he has created a platform truly designed to help people move forward, overcome personal obstacles, and learn to come from a place which is centered in GRATITUDE!  He is making a huge impact.  His relentless pursuit of personal development and contributing to make our world a better place, make him just the type of man I would like to sit down and have a beer with.  Take 20 minutes to watch this Ted Talk by Tony, which has been viewed over 20 MILLION TIMES!   He must be doing SOMETHING right! BAM!!!

Take Action!

There’s an action step right before you, TAKE IT!

BAM! Motivation Monday

Monday-MotivationDo you dread Mondays?  Do you sit at work on Mondays struggling to get in to the groove of a new work week?  For some, just getting out of bed on Monday is a struggle.  After a leisure weekend, working out before work, prepping your meals for the day, and making it to work on time, can make any Monday feel overwhelming.  I found this quick read, from the HuffPost, on why you should NEVER miss your Monday workout.

IMG_9105I also checked in with some of Coach Rob J’s Real Warriors to see how they maintain motivation and asked for some of their favorite resources to kickstart their drive, when they are feeling a little sluggish.  Chef B-rizzle, Bryan, isn’t one for social media or inspiring quotes; his motivation is fueled by results!  He said, “results become an addiction.”  From fitting into smaller sized clothing, the number on his scale decreasing, and consistently noticing improvements in his health, Chef B-rizzle is his own motivation.  I can personally attest that Bryan reigns himself back in and seeks guidance and motivation when he needs to refocus.  Check out his story – Chef B-Rizzle Gets Fit

IMG_6650

Steph, aka #TeamKilla, has several resources of encouragement, and much like B-Rizzle, her own results fuel her fire.  Having transformed her body from a size 14 to a size 2 in just over a year, she gets a much needed boost from her before and after photos, inspirational quotes, Pinterest, Tumblr, and she follows a few male and female weightlifters and athletes on Instagram.  Check out some of the accounts #teamkilla shares: Gymaholic, HealthyFitMantras on IG, and Bossbabe.inc.  But between you and me, I think she gets her biggest boost of motivation when she shows up in new workout digs!  Check out how her transformation started, Team Killa.

Deb, aka #teamSunshine, gleans inspiration from all over, but says, “My BIGGEST motivations are Coach Rob’s page at 4:30am, #TeamKIlla and #FresnoFitChef’s instagram feeds, they are 2 crazy inspiring, positive women, and watching the successes of so many others on the web.”  Some of the accounts that she follows on Instagram are The Good Quote, GlennonDoyleMelton (author of “Love Warrior”), Better Things in Life, Kate.Cash.Fitness, and LvnFit.  IMG_5599In my opinion, Deb isn’t motivated by a number on the scale.  When she came to me, she said that she didn’t care what she weighed as long as I  could help her get to a healthier version of her old self.  Baby steps Sunshine, back to baby steps.  Check out when #teamSunshine started her baby steps.

As I have discussed before, motivation and maintaining motivation are key components to any successful lifestyle change.  Starting next Monday September 4th, my Monday posts will be dedicated to sharing the people, quotes, and sites that I turn to for my own MOTIVATION!   Just in case you missed it, check out one of my blogs on Motivation, “The M in B.A.M. Logic!!!”

This For That #27

A glass OJ is missing the pulp, skin, and full fiber content of a orange. Skip the glass and go with the whole piece of fruit to reap the benefits of this healthy snack

One 8oz glass of OJ has close to 2.5 times the sugar and just one-third the fiber of a typical piece of fruit. The stats from caloriecounter.com: the small juice contains 112 calories, 0.1g fiber, and 20.8g sugar, while the fruit has 45 calories, 2.3g fiber, and 9g sugar

Eat your fruit, don’t drink it

Try it!!

This For That #26

This is the worse.. You plan on going out to have a nice healthy dinner with every intention on keeping it low cal. And this is what ends up happening, you end up doing everything in your power to not eat the bread or you just give in altogether.

Why put yourself through that hassle and temptation?

Put yourself in the driver seat, stay home and cook! Cooking at home will more likely result in a healthier meal.
So your not the cooking type? Well maybe it’s time that you become more savvy in this area. There are countless recipes and food books out, so just pick one and make an attempt.

Try it!
